One of the responsibilities of the board is to plan for the future, and that includes the composition of the next board of directors.
I can show you how your board can respect democratic principals while providing for its own succession, by recruiting and endorsing candidates for election. The members have the ultimate authority to accept or reject the board’s recommendation and that preserves democratic member control.
Composition:
Working with the board, I will assess the strengths and weaknesses of the current board. By referring to the strategic plan, past minutes and board member evaluations, we will work together to develop a comprehensive annual review.
Baseline:
After assessing the board, we will work together to create a “baseline matrix”- exploring the skills, traits and characteristics that will add value to your board.
Recruitment:
Working with your nominating committee, I will show you how to recruit and screen board candidates to ensure they match up with the needs of the board and the values of the organization.
Communication:
With any board endorsement process it is important to be transparent with your membership and communicate the requirements for directors and the reasons behind why certain candidates are endorsed.
Transition:
I’ll work with you to develop a comprehensive orientation, mentorship, defined objectives and progress reports. This will get new board members working as soon as possible once the election is over.
