Catherine McCreary, LLB. C. Dir.

Drawing on her experience on the boards of First Calgary, Vancity and Central 1 credit unions, Catherine works as a Governance Coach for member-based organizations. She recently was a member of the Credit Union Governance Task Force commissioned by FICOM. It sets out best practices.

At Central 1, Catherine was the chair of the Governance Committee and headed the Governance Review Task Force, consulting with the system and reviewing Central 1’s rules. She previously chaired the ad hoc committee on Trade Services.

At the time she left the Vancity board due to term limits, Catherine chaired the Audit Committee and the Nominations and Elections Committee. She previously served as chair of the Governance and Conduct Review Committee. Catherine also chaired the board of Inhance Investment Management, a socially responsible mutual fund.

Catherine served as a member of the BC Human Rights Tribunal.  She has worked in British Columbia and Alberta as an arbitrator, mediator and investigator. She was a Vice-Chair of the BC Labour Relations Board from 2000 to 2006. She worked as in-house counsel to Teamsters Local 213 after moving to BC from Alberta in 1997. In Alberta, she worked with the law firm McGown Johnson and acted as counsel, usually to unions and employees. Ms. McCreary has the designation of Chartered Director from the Directors College of Canada.

She is currently semi-retired, but still takes on contracts to do investigations and governance coaching.
